The 7 dangers of document-based auditing and how to avoid them

The use of word documents and spreadsheets as the primary vehicles for capturing and documenting audit procedures significantly impedes the ability of audit organisations to work efficiently, expedite quality assurance processes, maintain durable data integrity, and deliver meaningful audit insights. With new processes and technology, this situation has improved, but only marginally as many electronic working papers solutions effectively take key audit information and turn it into “dark data”. When information is trapped inside documents and spreadsheets, it effectively becomes “dark data”: impossible to search, reference, analyse, export, report on or access on mobile devices. These are all key demands of today’s audit teams—and for data intelligence to support insights and decision making.

In this 60-minute webinar, Claudio de los Rios, Senior Director, Data-Driven GRC at ACL will be sharing:

  • The problem with auditing in documents and the destructive effects of dark data
  • How to best avoid dark data and understand the need for a digital audit evidence
  • How high functioning audit teams are moving away from inter-linked documents and spreadsheets, to properly structured digital intelligence in order to unlock the value of audit data
  • Why you should never rely on document-embedded metadata
  • How to make primary audit documentation information available for queries and connected to audit logging
  • Using software to demonstrate the advantage of non-document based digital intelligence: running reports, data analytics, and mobile apps against audit documentation
